Singapore Through My Eyes: A Trip to Remember

Image
Singapore Through My Eyes: A Trip to Remember By Shanaya George  Landing at Changi Airport was already an adventure. The airport itself felt like a mini city. Walking through indoor gardens and seeing the waterfalls made me excited for everything the city had to offer. One of the first sights that stopped me in my tracks was Marina Bay Sands. Even from a distance, its towering structure and sparkling lights were unforgettable. I spent a few moments just staring at it, feeling the energy of the city around me. We also visited Gardens by the Bay. The Cloud Forest was just cool, misty, and peaceful, with a tall waterfall in the middle. It was the perfect spot to take a break and enjoy some greenery right in the middle of the city. Moreover, we explored Little India, Chinatown, and Arab Street. These neighborhoods were alive with colors, smells, and sounds. From the vibrant fabrics and spices in Little India to the temples of Chinatown and the murals of Arab Str...

Life of Streams

The Life of Streams By Shanaya George  “What do you want to become when you grow up?” It’s a question we’ve all heard, and asked with a smile – but the answer is rarely simple. Being a student, we come across various challenges and making hard decisions in life. For me, it was choosing commerce over science. Growing up I thought becoming a doctor or an engineer were the only jobs considered “good in life”. However, being in the eleventh standard and gaining some kind of maturity, I realised there are so many other great options, that are often ignored or looked down upon. I will be honest, I wasn’t the best in science but I worked hard enough to get decent grades. Moreover, I discovered I had a different liking and interest towards Commerce. Hence, I chose commerce, not because it was the most accepted or popular choice but because it felt right to me. And immediately, the judgments began. I remember the first time I told someone I wasn’t choosing science. T...

A Blissful State

Image
A Blissful State By Shanaya George  A miniscule portion of the nation, Surrounded by the Arabian sea, invoking devotion, The beaches soothe those displeased, As the coconut trees sway to the tunes of the barmy breeze. Ancestral homes on every street, Laid out tall and neat, Ambrosial scents of recheado fish Augment the diverse Goan dish. The hustle and bustle of the marketplace Is as loud as a crowded space. Vendors display their intricate goods As a symbol of their livelihoods. Guitarists strum their strings to the Goan Mando, While dancers groove to Fugdi, Dekhni and Dhalo, A blend of vigor and exceptional skill, Full of undying thrill. At grounds of every place, Football is played at a high pace, The old and young together, Despite any weather. Goa, a place where all is fun, Where work is leisurely done, To witness Goa's complete essence, One must respect it'sh distinct pleasance

The Hidden Curriculum: What School Doesn’t Teach Us

Image
The Hidden Curriculum: What School Doesn’t Teach Us By Shanaya George The bell rings. Chairs scrape against tiled floors. Books open in practiced rhythm. On the blackboard appear equations, definitions, dates, and diagrams, carefully structured knowledge meant to prepare us for examinations and, supposedly, for life. Yet long after balance sheets, theories, and definitions fade, something else remains. It is not written in chalk, not printed in textbooks, and not graded in red ink. And yet, it shapes us more deeply than any prescribed syllabus ever could. John Dewey once observed, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” If that is true, then school teaches far more than academic content. Beneath the visible curriculum lies an invisible one, subtle, powerful, and lasting. This is the hidden curriculum: the quiet lessons absorbed between lectures, in corridors, in silence, and in the emotions we carry home. Beyond the Report Card ...

The Quiet Strength of Jane Eyre. Book Review

Image
The Quiet Strength of Jane Eyre Some stories stay with you long after you’ve finished reading, not because they are flashy or dramatic, but because the main character feels real. Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is one of those stories. Jane is not rich, beautiful, or socially important. She is simply an ordinary girl who faces neglect, loneliness, and hardship, yet there is something quietly remarkable about her. She never lets the world’s judgment or life’s difficulties shake her sense of self, and that inner strength is what makes her unforgettable. Her time at Thornfield Hall shows how complicated life can be — how deeply you can care for someone and still need to protect your dignity and independence. Jane teaches us that love does not mean losing yourself, and that staying true to your values is sometimes the bravest choice of all. One line from the novel that stayed with me is, “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me,” because it captures Jane’s determination and her refu...
